Dr. Pil Bae Song

Senior Energy Expert (Consultant), Asian Development Bank

Mr. Pil-Bae Song is a senior energy expert (consultant) of Asian Development Bank (ADB). He has over 40 years of professional experience in the energy sector with global development experience that has a strong focus on South and Central Asia as well as the Republic of Korea.

Mr. Song built his career at ADB for the last 20 years. While in ADB till his retirement in 2013, Mr. Song held various senior positions including Chair of Energy Committee, Director of Central and West Asia Energy Division, and Senior Advisor to Vice-President (Operations 1). He led a number of project processing and administration teams for energy projects in South and Central Asia covering Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, among others. Prior to joining ADB in 1996, he was with Korea Power Engineering Co. Ltd for 18 years.

After his departure from ADB, he was appointed in several positions including Visiting Professor at Korea Development Institute (KDI) School of Public Policy and Management, Senior Advisor at Korea Energy Agency, Secretary General of Asia Solar Energy Forum. He also undertook several consulting assignments of ADB, World Bank and the Government of Korea for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy access in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
