Dr Priyantha DC Wijayatung

Dr Priyantha D C Wijayatunga graduated in with First Class Honours from the University of Moratuwa specializing in Electrical Engineering. In 1992, he obtained a PhD in Power Economics from Imperial College, London where he held the prestigious Beit Scientific Research Fellowship for doctoral studies. He joined Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2008 and is presently a Principal Energy Specialist. He was a Senior Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa and the founder Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology. Dr Wijayatunga, in 2003 became the founder Director General of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka. He also served as a member of the Ceylon Electricity Board. He was the Chairman, South Asia Forum for Infrastructure Regulation in 2006. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Corporate Member of IET, London and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. Also he is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is involved in processing key energy sector loans in Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He has been the ADB focal point for regional energy cooperation in South Asia since 2008. He has experience in energy sector policy making, regulatory and Climate Change activities over 25 years and has authored over 75 publications including over 25 refereed international journal publications in the field of energy. He is the lead author of the ADB publication on “Energy Trade in South Asia: Opportunities and Challenges”.
